Todays Verse/Thought:  Fear vs. Love

II Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us the spirit of FEAR; but of power, and of LOVE, and of a sound mind.

Life Implication:
For God HAS NOT given us the spirit of fear, Fear never never comes from God. As we continue to concentrate on the remainder of this verse, I want to make it perfectly clear from the get-go that when we experience fear . . . it is not from God. He is the One who tells us: Don't let your heart be troubled or fearful (John 14:27). That's the FIRM FOUNDATION to then receiving a spirit of power, love and a sound mind!

So, today, let's look at that incredible word LOVE! The kind of love that cares more about another's well-being than your own . . . that's the kind of love God's Spirit wants to pour through us. But until we can fully grasp and understand God's love for you and me, it's pretty hard to whip up that kind of UN-self-centered love.

Romans 5:8 says: But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. The key phrase here is WHILE WE WERE STILL SINNERS! As sinners weren't we unlovable . . .unappreciative . . . ungrateful . . . ?

I'm sure we can all think of someone that we find hard to love. Someone who is unlovable, unappreciative and ungrateful. Well, I think you might be catching my drift here, those are exactly the kind of people GOD WANTS TO LOVE THROUGH US. Did you get that? He does not ask US to do the loving. He wants us to be a funnel through which His love can pour to those who are difficult to love. That's why He says that He gives us a SPIRIT of love!

Life Application:
In prayer I have heard others, and I myself have prayed: God, BREAK MY HEART with the things that break Your heart. You see, God has to do the heart-breaking inside your heart. Only then can you become SENSITIVE AND FILLED WITH PASSION for the needs of others.

First, acknowledge that God is NOT the author of fear. THANK HIM that He gives you a spirit of love. Ask God to GIVE YOU A HUMBLE HEART full of compassion, kindness, gentleness, and forgiveness. Then ASK HIM TO BREAK YOUR HEART with the things that break His heart. Then, watch how His love begins to flow . . . youíll be amazed!
