Todays Verse/Thought:  How Significant Are You?

Matthew 20:20-23 The mother of Zebedee's sons came to Him . . . asking . . .Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on the left, in Your kingdom.
Mark 9:34 . . . for on the road they (Jesus' disciples) had disputed among themselves who would be the greatest.

Life Implication:
For the next four days we will begin to look at the specific needs and the accompanying fears, specific to men and specific to women.

MAN HAS A NEED TO BE SIGNIFICANT. God said in Genesis, that man would work by the sweat of his brow. That sweat comes in many forms . . . from tilling the land . . . to negotiating on Wall Street. The point is that man will have to work hard to provide for his family. As a man struggles to achieve his significance his self-worth can become tremendously threatened.

We usually think of being significant in a positive way. However, because of early life experiences, one may seek significance in a profoundly negative manner. A Columbine School shooter may have thought significance could be found in being on the front page of newspapers all over the world, and he was right . . .dead right!

To be significant is to be FULL OF MEANING . . . how do we wed this to the idea that Solomon bemoaned in Ecclesiastes 1: Everything is meaningless . . . utterly meaningless! What do people get for all their hard work?  In the end, Solomon summed up where our significance can be found: Here is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is the duty of every person.

There is a Christian catechism that asks and answers the following question: What is the chief end of man? Man's chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. If we could but get the significance of this into our hearts . . . our minds . . . our spirits . . .for, therein lies our own significance!

Life Application:
REMEMBER that you are so significant that Jesus died on the cross for you. Here we are again, at the foot of the cross. ASK GOD TO HELP YOU to find your significance, your chief end in Him and only Him. ASK GOD TO REPROGRAM any of the negatives of your past, and begin to teach you how to glorify Him and enjoy Him on a daily basis. START EACH DAY by worshipping and praising Him. REALIZE how much He loves you. Isnít it easy to enjoy someone who already has declared His never ending love for you? Make Him part of your daily schedule, like a Bosom Buddy that enjoys your day along with you.
